Créme opened its doors on a quiet stretch of Essex Street with one conviction: that the best bread doesn't need a fancy address — it needs time, good flour, and hands that know what they're doing.
Every morning, our bakers arrive before dawn to shape sourdough, fold croissants, and pull trays of everything from rustic country loaves to delicate viennoiserie. The grocery side of the shop carries the same philosophy — thoughtfully chosen olive oils, aged cheeses, imported chocolates, and pantry staples that make a home kitchen feel a little more special.
We're not a chain. We're not trying to be. We're just a neighborhood bakery and grocer doing the work properly, one batch at a time, for the people who live, work, and walk past our door every day.
Two halves of the same idea: real food, made and selected with care.
Sourdough, ciabatta, focaccia, and seasonal specialty loaves — all leavened naturally and baked fresh every morning.
Croissants, pain au chocolat, danishes, and seasonal fruit tarts — laminated, filled, and glazed before you walk in.
Custom cakes for birthdays, milestones, and quiet Sunday mornings. Order ahead or pick something ready from the case.
Imported olive oils, aged cheeses, specialty chocolates, preserves, and everyday essentials — selected to elevate what you cook at home.
Specialty coffee, espresso drinks, fresh juice, and seasonal beverages — the kind of cup that makes the walk worth it.
Pre-assembled hampers or build your own — bread, cheese, chocolate, wine — wrapped and ready for anyone on your list.
Essex Street has always been one of the Lower East Side's quieter arteries — lined with bodegas, bookshops, and the kind of block where neighbors actually know each other. Créme sits comfortably in that rhythm.
We're a five-minute walk from the L and M trains, tucked between the Delancey Street exit and the Essex Market hustle. Locals stop by for their morning loaf on the way to work. Visitors discover us the way New Yorkers always do — by accident, then by habit.
The neighborhood shapes what we do. Our sourdough is sturdy enough for a sandwich on the subway. Our pastries are refined without being fussy. Everything here is meant to fit into an actual day.
